Here a lack of nutrients or excess of certain compounds can cause ocular tissue degeneration or death of the inner cells of the eye.
\n
Vitamin A deficiency
\n
Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin whose function is the protection and maintenance of cells in the retina. Retinol is one of the active forms of vitamin A that is responsible for the production of some pigments in the retina which help to better perceive the spectrum of visible light. The lack of retinol stops the production of these pigments, which in the future may cause night blindness.
\n
Vitamin A also has beta carotene, which are antioxidants that fight free radicals which degenerate the cells in the body. Vitamin A helps hydrate the cornea as it promotes the production of moisture to lubricate this structure.
\n
Vitamin A deficiency is one of the main reasons that blindness occurs at an early age in children around the world due to poor access to the variety of some foods.
\n

\n

\n

\n

\n
Excess of Sugar (diabetes)
\n
Diabetes is a disease that can be caused by heredity or poor nutrition with excess sugar.
