This mind set make some strong believers detest it. I now wonder what reaction this set of people will wear on their face if they are aware of the fact that some wines share name with biblical kings and partriachs. One fact that some never understand is that most of this ancient kings are also wine takers. The first time I saw Jeroboam, I was surprised. Jeroboam was the first biblical name given to the biggest Bottle of Champagne many years ago. I wonder what could have caused that and what connection champane has with the Bible characters.
\n
JEROBOAM, REHOBOAM, NEBUCHADNEZZAR, METHUSELAH, SALMANAZAR, BALTHAZAR
\n

\n

\n
to mention but few are names given to some wine Bottles. Honestly, the reason behind naming wine bottles after them isn't clear, however, some biblical story about those characters somehow fits in.
\n
Jeroboam in jewish history is known as a man of great worth. This could be the reason behind naming champagne bottle after him as we all know the worth of this wine in cash. Alternatively, Jeroboam was the king that made the children of Isreal to misbehave and sin (1 king 14 -16). This could be a reason also because as at when Champagne Bottle was named after Jeroboam, it was the biggest Bottle made. The quantity was about 4.5 litres. One can take as much as possible, run out of guage and start misbehaving. Somehow, the big bottle as at that time (Jeroboam) that contains much fluid has caused many to fumble and misbehave.
\n
The next Bottle that was made after the one that was named Jeroboam was named after another king called Rehoboam. According to the Bible, Jeroboam became king before Rehoboam. That could also be a reason the Bottle was named in accordance. After Jeroboam comes Rehoboam.
\n
Methuselah was the oldest man in the Bible(969 years). His name is among the largest size of wine Bottles. This could denote how long it will take the wine in this Bottle to finish because of its size. May be a way of comparing the life span of Methuselah to the quantity of wine in the Bottle.
\n
Another name I will like to take a look at is Balthazar. He was a king in Babylon who partied and drank till he was caursed and his nation was invaded(Daniel 5, 1 -31). He was careless. If the scernario was pictured, it would be a funny one. Naming a wine Bottle after Balthazar might be a way of calling the attention of people to always drink responsibly.
\n
As it might seems like a tribute to these ancient kings, one way or the other, a point or two was derived if not fully understood why those Bottles were named after the Biblical kings and patriarchs.
\n
Hope I hit the climax.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"p34vchh7x","appParentAuthor":"johntagbo","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
