Short distances are the best way to save transport costs.</p>\n<p>- It's suitable for both solar and hydro power. Solar will have the largest capacity, but hydro is needed to store energy for when it's used.</p>\n<p>- It doesn't have large oil or gas reserves. </p>\n<p>- Its future is threatened by global warming.</p>\n<p>- There's room for economic growth, so that new infrastructure can be built quickly.</p>\n<p>- There are sea ports and navigable rivers, because water transport is still the most energy-efficient mode, even though it will probably keep using dirty fuel.</p>\n<p>This means that a whole range of coastal Asian countries from Pakistan to China would be ideal for sustainable transport, including India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
