I remember in the 1980's certain teams were banned form playing in certain events due to their fans.</p>\n<p>Fans are very passionate and it is normally a small element that is looking for trouble. Security has advanced a lot over the last decade or so with face recognition cameras at all games. These fans that create disruptions are then identified and are banned from football for life.</p>\n<p>Interpol has a list of fans who have bans against them and are not allowed to travel to venues where their team is playing. The last world cup saw certain fans banned from travelling.</p>\n<p>Clubs have to take the threat of playing to an empty stadium seriously as it would affect their revenue returns. Alcohol was banned many years ago and I know you can purchase alcohol free beer instead. Most fans drink before and after the game anyway and it is more controlled today.</p>\n<p>A high police presence with strict and forceful tactics was seen in Russia during the last World Cup. Fans had no chance to riot as it was well policed. I say fans lightly as it is not really the fans that cause the trouble.
