One could buy votes and earn reputation overnight. The new system with steem user authority is slightly different and works on followers and engagement. There is also the amount of SP you are holding as well that is taken into account.</p>\n<p>The more followers you have the more you should earn so reputation with the steem ua is more accurate. I wouldn't worry about reputation too much for now as it will most likely change before SMT's come out.</p>\n<p>I think the bigger your account becomes the more reputation you will have with more followers and this will increase your earnings.
