What's your view about having La Liga matches played in the US?

I think this will be bad for the fans in Europe, but it could be a good strategy to increase the League's profile in the United States.

Having La Liga Matches played in the US is really a money move. It's a great way for the league to grow it's fanbase and generate extra revenue outside the home turf. If they can get more fans in the US, that means more fans to buy their merchandise and a bigger audience for the US broadcaster of the League. So, it's really a logical move from a business standpoint. And it's also something that sports leagues in the US have been doing for a long time now, with the NBA and NFL holding matches in Europe and Asia. I'm pretty sure the only reason that the MLS hasn't held soccer matches outside the US themselves is because there's no audience for it. Otherwise, they'd probably be the ones announcing an MLS match in Spain.

Now, as a soccer/football fan, I think this will be great for the US audience. It's not everyday that US soccer fans get to see some of the big names in soccer/football, much less see them play an important match live. Sure, you have a few popular players in the MLS, but let's face it, they're not in the same league as those who play in La Liga. So, they're definitely winners here.

However, as @elbiasto has noted, it's going be difficult for those fans who religiously follow every match their team plays. That's why I'm not surprised by the backlash that this announcement received, first from the fans, then from the players themselves, who are not too keen on playing in US soil, that the threat of a strike has been mentioned.

I don't think it will reach a situation where the La Liga players will strike against the League, though. They will probably reach an accord that will make way for the match in the US, and at the same time allow the players some concession. So, it's just a matter of time, before this happens.

The bigger question I see at this point is how a successful La Liga match in the US will affect other European Leagues. Who knows, could this open the floodgates to a possible UEFA Champions League match in the US in the future?
