As @ohmygoodness pointed out, if the two Germanies were able to unite (despite similar ideological disparities), I would not rule out this unification.
\n
It would be a lesson to the world, a wonderful thing for the generations of Koreans who saw their families split and forced to ideological animosity; but it would be interesting to see what ideology will prevail.
\n
If history serves as a mirror and the example of Germany or even Vietnam can guide our speculations, then yes, it looks as if the reunification of the two Koreas is not so farfetched.
\n
In the case of Vietnam the socialist north won and the country became one republic in 76 under communist ideology, but we saw how progressively in reformed into more mainstream western market economy and social policies. In the case of Germany, the western side ideology prevailed and the communist east side of the country integrated into what Germany is today.
\n
So, I guess we can be optimistic about a similar outcome with the two Koreas, especially after Kim Jong-un’s meeting with American President, Donald Trump (something most people thought would never happen). I would not be surprised if in order to survive North Korea accepted some conditions that would transform a unified Korea into a major player in world politics. We know that dictators can be very pragmatic when it comes to retaining power.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"pky2cy4zw","appParentAuthor":"erikah","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
