When will it be possible to exchange SBD/STEEM to fiat currencies?

Probably rather soon, at least within ASEAN. CZ, CEO of Binance, announced at this week’s Consensus Singapore conference that they plan to launch an fiat-to-crypto exchange in Singapore in the months to come and afterwards plan to expand those operations to other continents as well(1).

While that still requires the use of an exchange, that will IMHO be the first exchange to offer Steem-to-fiat, if they apply it to all tokens traded on the Binance platform. Binance doesn’t trade SBD though, anybody who follows CZ will know that’s not the type of token he cares too much about, so no surprise there.

Currently there aren’t many fiat-to-crypto exchanges yet and most, like for example CoinFalcon, offer only a selected number of tokens so far. But it is an ever expanding niche.

On Steemit it will most likely not happen, because fiat-to-crypto will be an always more regulated operation and it is beyond the scope of apps. Steem has its own internal market though. Technically, one could operate an exchange on top of the Steem blockchain as well but it is unlikely anyone would opt for that, yet time will tell.

Links:

(1) https://www.coindesk.com/binance-reveals-plan-to-launch-crypto-exchanges-on-almost-every-continent/
