The introduce yourself post is basically a way to say \"Hi steemit!! It's me Chuuuckie and I love....\" It's kind of like a rite of passage on steemit, a tradition if you will and although you can do everything you want to do on steemit without actually introducing yourself, it's always a good idea to do it.

Well when you knock on a door or enter somebody's house, the first thing you do is introduce yourself right, so that people can put a name to the username or a face to the username seeing as people often put a picture of themselves.

Another reason why people do introduction posts is because of the chance of possibly getting an upvote from a whale. I remember when a good friend of mine did his introduction post sometime last year, and he was lucky enough to get an upvote from blocktrades which roughly came to about $100.

Now obviously the essence of doing an introduction post is not to get upvoted by a whale... although that's actually welcomed, it will probably encourage you more if that actually happens. Introduction posts are steemit way of announcing your presence on the platform, and although a large number of them go unnoticed, the ones that do actually go on to become quite something on steemit.

It also serves as a point of reference for people who want to see how far you've come on steemit. I actually stroll down to the beginning of some people's posts just to see how they did their introduction posts. It's always nice to see just how much people have changed from when they joined steemit till now.

Finally, I don't actually think introduction posts are necessary seeing as alot of them go unnoticed and people do just fine without actually making any introduction posts, but it doesn't mean that they we shouldn't do it. It's a tradition and even the whales on steemit did it, so why not everyone else.

I hope this helps.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"p3vcp5l95","appParentAuthor":"chuuuckie","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}"
