Oh my this question is something else!!! Literature is life!!!! Just look at the works of Shakespeare, the words of authors like Dean Koontz, Sydney Sheldon and so many others, without literature, there wouldn't be life.

Let me give you a run down of why literature is important;

1. Broadens minds: Literature is the teacher of man, it teaches us to ask questions we don't even know to ask and gives us answers from a perspective that our shallow mind cannot fathom. To broaden your mind sometimes you have to look into the mind of another and that's what literature does for humanity!!

2. History: The words and events contained in novels, biographies and autobiographies are records left behind for the future generations to know that someone was here and they existed. The books we read today, the poems we recite are the expressions of an author that may or may not be of our time. With literature, your body may die, but your mind lives on in your works.

3. Appreciation of diversity: Theres no way you can experience every culture in the world but with books we get to do that, whether it's reading a story by a Pakistani author or appreciating the poems of a Russian poet, you'll definitely appreciate their culture and mindset. This is something that only literature can do.

4. Improved writing skills: Reading the stories of authors has a double effect of not only satisfying the brain, but teaching it as well. You'll find that you'll be a better reader if you happen to read alot of books and see the writing style of different authors

5. Critical thinking: We read books and our brain fishes out the relevant information from every page, doing this boosts a person's critical thinking skills and teaches them how to find the underlying meaning or message from a piece of literature.

6. Humanity: literature is an adequate representation of human life on earth with everyone being an author in one way or the other. We understand each other better because of literature and we appreciate each others genius because of it as well. I said it before and I'll say it again, there wouldn't be life without literature.

I hope this helps
