It had and still has a vast stake the proportion of the whole was initially around 70% and is currently down to about 30%. Development has been too slow compared to EOS. In January 2018, Steem was worth nearly two billion dollars. That's a shitload of money and enough to hire some really great software engineers. Onboarding users has been a disaster with the huge backlog of genuine users trying to get an account and the great number of spam accounts around. HF20 put a stop to spam, which was great but HF20 should've been possible to implement 6-8 months earlier had the Steemit Inc management been up to task. They did have the money, which is why they should've been on a hiring spree. Communication to the rest of shareholders has been generally poor despite some improvements this autumn. The implementation of HF20 had some major hiccups but that I can forgive because it was a huge boon to the chain.
\n
I'm praying for HF21 after which further decentralization should be possible regarding the onboarding of users and RC delegation pools. I want Steem to reach a level of maturity at which it can support apps taking the lead. Of course, the ongoing migration to RocksDB will do a lot for the survivability of the chain.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"f398fnejw","appParentAuthor":"funtraveller","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |

We are also start supporting STEEM dapps.
\n
I think STEEM is underestimated - it has already gain a very strong community and a lot of developers are building dapps based on it.
