Personally as a guitar player, and having experience in bands, I prefer the sound of base without a pick. I've played in bands ranging in heavy metal, to blues, and country. In every one of these genre's I prefer a pickless arrangement.
\n
If I were to guess, metal tends to be one of the more popular genre's for utilizing a pick. At least in most of the bands I was in, I was always slapping a pick out of the bass players hands.
\n
Something else I noticed quite often, was that bassists that preferred picks seemed to suck more often than not. Why that is? I don't know, but shitty musicians love playing around with effects and what ever, as a means to muddy their shit skills.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"f3rga3nd5","appParentAuthor":"bjornb","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
