On STEEM, there are very few rules. If the code allows, than it's doable. Which means, anyone can use bid bots.</p>\n<p>2. That said, just because it can be done, doesn't mean it should be done, or that people have to put up and shut up. There are plenty of hot button topics relative to STEEM, and bid bots are one of them. Use or don't use them, be prepared for some criticism.</p>\n<p>3. While it is true that bid bots can promote posts, a user needs to spend quite a bit to get to the top of trending. That being the case, $10 or less in SBDs will probably not get you noticed. Maybe $50, but it's probable it will need to be more. Much more. Thus, while touted, or inferred, that bid bots can help the plankton or minnow succeed, it is more likely either will need to have a lot more SBD than they can likely earn in order to be seen.</p>\n<p>4. Not all bid bots are created equal. Some are better than others, as are their owners. It's just as easy to lose money, if the user isn't well versed in how things work. The more popular bid bots tend to have fewer openings. A lot of time can be spent trying to figure out which one to use each time because the nature of things is in constant flux depending on quite a few variables.</p>\n<p>5. Bid bot usage sets up false impressions for the new people. Until they get their full bearings, which could happen in a few weeks if they're fortunate, new users are just as apt to think bid bots are necessary for success as they are to avoid them or figure out moderation is. Thus, the use of bid bots gets continually perpetuated by those who know the least about how they work.</p>\n<p>6. Bid bots affect reputation. I know people put little stock in reputation because of this, but it's like an infinite feedback loop. People look down on reputation rankings, but rep would be perfectly fine if there wasn't a way to buy them. Bid bots are the most consistent way of increasing a reputation, but people accept them as inevitable.</p>\n<p>7. What constitutes abuse? I guess I'm not sure. Is it a matter of frequency, or is it the amount—how much is spent? What would be acceptable? How would you begin to enforce it, because if it can't be enforced, than it will continue to be abused. The whole nature of bid bots lend themselves to being abused.</p>\n<p>What about content or subject matter? How can a definitions of what constitutes abuse come to be if there's a myriad of ways to define what constitutes abuse that isn't as likely to be agreed upon by enough users.</p>","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"fk6zg5ysw","appParentAuthor":"cryptoandcoffee","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
