At around 30.3 million km2 (11.7 million square miles) including neighboring islands, it covers 6% of Earth's aggregate surface territory and 20% of its property area.[3] With 1.2 billion people[1] starting at 2016, it represents around 16% of the world's human populace. The mainland is encompassed by the Mediterranean Sea toward the north, the Isthmus of Suez and the Red Sea toward the upper east, the Indian Ocean toward the southeast and the Atlantic Ocean toward the west. The landmass incorporates Madagascar and different archipelagos. It contains 54 completely perceived sovereign states (nations), nine regions and two accepted free states with constrained or no recognition.[4] most of the mainland and its nations are in the Northern Hemisphere, with a considerable bit and number of nations in the Southern Hemisphere.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"fkp4uy9d5","appParentAuthor":"golddeejay","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}"

json_metadata"{"app":"Musing","appTags":["africa"],"appCategory":"africa","appTitle":"Why do people from other continents reference Africa together like a country instead of each of country in Africa separately ?","appBody":"
I think it boils down to the people who say this not knowing exactly where each country is, and what is special about that country. I do not think most people believe that Africa is a single country.
\n
I often hear phrases like \"I want to go on a safari in Africa\", and when people say this, they do it because they don't really know where in Africa they should go for a safari, or even where it's possible. But I think most of them are indeed aware that there are lots of different countries.
\n
Aggregating countries into bigger groups is also a natural thing to do, even for other parts of the world such as Asia, Europe, or South America. The people who want to visit the Amazon often tend to say that they are going to the rain forest of South America, just like people say they are going on a safari in Africa.
\n
So again, people don't know the specific geological locations and what each of the countries have to offer, so they just aggregate it to say Africa.
\n
Keep in mind that this answer is written by someone from Europe; the answer might be completely different for an American person.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"fkp4uy9d5","appParentAuthor":"golddeejay","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}"
