Not only is the plant able to supply for farming needs but it also supplies 60% of Israels water needs.They used to have enough water from the aquifer but lately have felt the need more and more as water is a scarcity in the desert region. The desert is actually shrinking now as farming is starting to take back the desert.There are two processes that are used fro removing salt. Firstly by boiling and evaporating the water leaving salt behind and catching the condensation turning it into water.The other way is reverse osmosis using high pressure and membranes to remove the salt. The plant has 16 000 membranes to catch the salt.
