There was no electricity, the only decent metal was iron (Steel and alunminium were too fucking to get), knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry and engineering was very scarce, etc. Leonardo did what comes to be the prototypes of many of the inventions we have today (600 years later).
\n

\n
What I think makes Da Vinci more relevant than Tesla is that he was a genius in everything he played: The best painter of his time (or the best artist in general) and one of the best in history. He wrote and illustrated hundreds of pages with his observations on the anatomy of the human being and nature that brought much knowledge and resources to all subsequent doctors and biologists. And he did, as I mentioned, prototypes of dozens of inventions that would be made later when the materials were optimal (like the diver suit, the tank, the submachine gun, the helicopter, the printing press ...) and others that he built directly in life like the scissors.
\n

\n
In spite of that and that he was a precursor of the idea of ββthe geological eras, I believe that his greatest contribution to humanity was the gears. Without them many of the machines we have today would never have existed or would have taken longer to appear or have been less efficient.
\n
That includes all types of engines, printing presses and textile machines.
\n

\n
Tesla was also a great one, his inventions were very relevant in the field of electricity, but I do not think it is at Leonardo's level. Tesla perfected a lot of things that were already created and quickly advanced humanity in terms of electricity and electronics. (With alternating current mostly). Still, it can not be compared to the genius of Da Vinci.
\n
In fact I think there are characters like Julius Edgar Lilienfeld who are at Tesla's level and have a similar story.
\n

\n
In short: Tesla was a genius in his field, Da Vinci a genius several. So it seems to me that the winner should be Leonardo. Still, I do not think they are the most relevant to history, not even far away.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"fkakjld7x","appParentAuthor":"gungunkrishu","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
