| json_metadata | "{"app":"Musing","appTags":["team","employees"],"appCategory":"team","appTitle":"How do you keep your employees (or team members) keen and motivated?","appBody":"<p>I have worked in an industry of food for the past 15 years, it is a hard life as there are lots of ups and downs, the long days and hours make the job hard and people lose motivation all the time.</p>\n<p>When I progressed to been the kitchen manager I found a way to keep my staff motivated and that was by telling them they had done a good job when they had, and when they had done something wrong I would retrain them.</p>\n<p>The company I worked for was a horrible company, they had taken me in to the office when i became kitchen manager and told me that I had to shout at my staff when they did something wrong.</p>\n<p>Shouting never achieves anything in this life, I don't know about you but when someone shouts at me I tend to not listen and just want to punch them in the face.</p>\n<p>i decided to do it my way, i would take them to one side and ask them if they remembered their training? then I would ask them what the difference between what they had done in the training and what had happened at the time.</p>\n<p>If they picked up that there was a problem then I would be cool with it and let it off from time to time, but other times I would come into work early and retrain the staff that needed retraining.</p>\n<p>I also think you need to lead by example to, so if you stay positive and calm the staff will do the same, if you are to lose your cool and start to make a scene they will think that they can do the same.</p>\n<p>My job would also pay me a bonus as long as I hit targets, these were easy to hit once I got everybody on the same boat as me, with the bonus I would take it and spend it on the staff, this would be a night out once every 3 months or so, or it would be drinks behind the bar for when they finished their job.</p>\n<p>there is nothing better than sitting around together after a hard shift with a beer with the guys who you were working with.</p>\n<p>i have had no end of people that have said to me that I was the best kitchen manager they have worked with and I had less of a turnover in staff. and as a result of this I also saw repeat custom rise at about 55% in a week as customers knew the staff and the staff knew the customers.</p>\n<p>I have since left the company due to personal reasons and I have had offers to go back and work for them as they need a strong player who treats the staff right. </p>\n<p><br></p>","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"p3bvlj28x","appParentAuthor":"gungunkrishu","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
