Going back to the history of human existence and various scientific and technological innovations and discoveries, we'll find out that we as humans are so much fond of pushing our boundaries whenever nature or other natural forces gets us pinned to the wall. In the process of pushing our boundaries, we make discoveries and invent things that originally would be helpful to the continuous existence of the human race a d ensuring we remain the top of the food chain as higher animal.

The saying necessity is the mother of all inventions is not a far cry from the above fact as humans only push boundaries when they are backed up to the wall. In the bid to survive, humans get insight to invent new things to tackle the present challenge they face.

As humans, we are equipped with survival instinct just like higher animals we are we tend to survive in the midst of difficulties and fashion out ways to solve our problems but this only happens mostly when it becomes necessary and expedient and there is no where to turn to.

Yes, of course I agree with the statement that necessity is the mother of all inventions as I have read through a chunk of different history and stories backing some certain inventions that I realize that the insight for such inventions came as a matter of necessity to tackle certain problems being faced at that point in time. A vivid example is the invention and discovery of a vaccine that cures the polio virus. This vaccine would have not been discovered if polio had not been ravaging the lives of children which necessitated some team of doctors to find a cure for it at all cost.

Another example is the invention of the wireless transmitter in order to get information across to a lot of people within a short time and without much stress. Morse code also was invented in order not to let enemies get wind of the information the US military was passing across to their soldiers on the war front.

In a nutshell, as a matter of fact, all inventions only came to be as a matter of necessity and no invention came to be without the ultimate need for it hence the statement necessity is the mother of all inventions.

For example if we go back to the days of invention things like lamps were invented so that mankind can be able to see in the dark, but things like television and radio were not inventions of necessities they were inventions of pleasure.
\n
My point is mankind cannot do within a lamp but they can actually do without electricity if we look at the two, one was first invented because it was the need of man, the other was invented because it's the want of man, while need is a necessity, want is definitely not.
\n
So I'll definitely have to say that necessity is the mother of inventions that were necessary and important to man's existences.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"p3p9kl87x","appParentAuthor":"gungunkrishu","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |

json_metadata | "{"app":"Musing","appTags":["invention","mother"],"appCategory":"invention","appTitle":"There is a famous saying - necessity is the mother of invention. Do you agree with necessity really being the mother of invetion?","appBody":"
Oh yeah I agree with this saying a hundred percent. The problem with these kinds of sayings is not the sayings themselves but people's interpretations of it.

For instance some might argue that some inventions were made even though they weren't neccesary, and yes they'd be right, but that is limiting the scope of the quote and missing the point in a way.

What the quote is basically saying is that to invent a thing there must be a need for that thing; a factor that makes it NECCESSARY. And for it to survive there must also be a neccesity to keep it ongoing. But what people fail to get is that this neccesity CAN be stimulated.

Not everyone sees the same things as the other. Which is why some neccesities are oblivous to others, and only great geniuses see them. Even greater geniuses are the ones who can CREATE this neccesity. So that they're not only inventing their inventions, but also basically inventing the neccesity for it. That is double for the trouble.

And to take it further, there IS always a neccesity for neccesities to be invented. Since man is a restless being with intellectual capacity greater than any other species on earth, we are restless and the creative instict must find an outlet. So we not only invent things, we invent neccesities for things.

A great example of an invented neccesity? Facebook and twitter. Social media etc.

Now the internet was neccesary. We needed a better way to store and retrieve information and a genius way was created. That was a neccesity. But facebook and twitter? Was it really neccesary for us to wake up every morning and post a selfie to the entire world? Was it really neccesary to have a place where you can write and share every single little detail that comes into our head to the world? No.

But some people- -hello Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey--created this neccesity and sold it to us. And now even though it wasn't always a neccesity, now it is just that, and most people cant go a full day- - hell some can't go an hour- - without posting a selfie on Facebook.

So you see that depending on the way you choose to look at it, necessity really is the mother of invention.

Cheers!
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"p3p9kl87x","appParentAuthor":"gungunkrishu","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
