If you're going to jail then most likely you've had a lawyer defending you. Discuss it with your lawyer. There is a good chance the lawyer would help keep the two hardware wallets secure (probably charging a small extra fee) and unlike a close friend or family member the lawyer could get in trouble with the bar or possibly lose the license to practice law if the lawyer steals the bitcoins.</p>\n<p>Also, be aware that if the hardware wallets are solid state drives it is unwise to store bitcoins long-term unpowered that way. Four years being unpowered is really pushing an SSD's limits to recover data rot and bit flipping.</p>\n<p>This assumes that the bitcoins are yours.
