This enabled a huge following and bought enjoyment to all corners of the world.</p>\n<p>The beauty about the story was it was for all ages from young to old and it wasn't just one book. They built on the story making it bigger and bigger building up a bigger following. The films added to the popularity with some excellent marketing.</p>\n<p>Toys and costumes were made and even theme parks put in Harry Potter world. | json_metadata | "{"app":"Musing","appTags":["literature","entertainment","fiction","question"],"appCategory":"literature","appTitle":"What made Harry Potter so popular worldwide?","appBody":"<p>I think the elements which combined to propel Harry Potter to stratospheric levels of success were:</p>\n<p><strong>* Imagination and attention to detail</strong>: There's plenty of imagination in the world-building but also huge attention to detail that brings the settings and magic to life.</p>\n<p><strong>* Escapism</strong>: Using a story hidden within the real-world modern-day setting allows readers to easily crossover from their own lives and escape. </p>\n<p><strong>* Relatable:</strong> It's school-based with many themes drawn from typical school issues (friendship, bullying, coming-of-age, school sports) so a story that most people can relate to.</p>\n<p><strong>* Accessible at all ages:</strong> The stories can work for both children and adults and the language is accessible.</p>\n<p><strong>* Cliffhangers and suspense:</strong> Each book included numerous cliffhangers waiting for the reader. For instance it was known in advance that one of the characters would die in each of the later books.</p>\n<p><strong>* Good story-lines: </strong>JK's a good story-teller. Although lots of people are sniffy about the standard of the writing, the plots draw you in. and the stories flow.</p>\n<p>There was also a viral, snowballing effect as the series of books progressed, with the need to read the books early to avoid spoilers given their popularity.
