A type of application is being discussed, where this application is not owned by anyone, cannot be turned off, and the system cannot be down.
\n
Sounds crazy, right?
\n
This type of application is called DApps which stands for Decentralized Applications, a decentralized application.
\n
Before understanding DApps further, let's understand the concept behind DApps, namely Blockchain. As discussed earlier, the Blockchain is simply a large book that keeps records of transactions in blocks in an organized manner using cryptographic keys. The Blockchain is a digital storage using the concept of consensus. The key is to understand that this ledger is not stored in a central location or regulated by certain entities. Open-source software that uses Blockchain technology is called DApps.
\n
Because the DApps concept is still very new, it can be said that there is no single definition that can explain what DApps is. However, an application can be said by DApps if the application has four criteria below:
\n
Open Source - The application source code must be accessible to everyone
\n
Decentralized - All application operating records must be stored in a public system and decentralized to avoid central control
\n
Incentivized - Application has crypto currency / digital token / asset to run by itself
\n
Algorithm / Protocol - Generates tokens and has a consensus mechanism built into them
\n
If you follow the definition above, it can be said that the first DApps is Bitcoin. Bitcoin is a general ledger that makes transactions more efficient without the presence of intermediaries and central authorities.
\n
DApps classification
\n
Based on the Blockchain model used, DApps can be classified as follows:
\n
Type 1 - This type of DApps has its own Blockchain system like Bitcoin. Other Altcoins also enter the DApps type 1 classification
\n
Type 2 - This type of DApps uses the Type 1 Blockchain and is a protocol that uses tokens to function. An example is the Omni Protocol.
\n
Type 3 - This type of DApps uses the type 2 DApps protocol. An example is the SAFE network.
\n
How does a DApp function?
\n
DAppss works by implementing the four criteria above. This means that DApps is a software platform that is open-source and implemented on a decentralized Blockchain system, and runs using tokens generated using algorithms / protocols.
\n
How to start a DApp project?
\n
Step 1: Make a Whitepaper
\n
Step 2: Start the ICO Process
\n
Step 3: Build and Develop Products
\n
Step 4: Launch the product
\n
Now that was an explanation of what DApps is. You might be aware of many ICO projects which also include DApps and any type of DApps. By reading this article, hopefully your understanding of what DApps and Blokchchain is getting!
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"fkpuc53aq","appParentAuthor":"ijoel","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
