They don't want their children to repeat mistakes that they did.
\n
The parents see it as a second opportunity to live their lives again through their children. Missed opportunities and regrets are in the back of their minds and subconsciously put pressure on their kids not to repeat their mistakes.
\n
This is unfair on the children creating pressure when it is not required. They only want to give them their best support but it can be very demanding. I think all parents put some type of pressure as they care. I know i did as my son really worried me and at times i cared more about his schoolwork than he did.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"f3e8ff785","appParentAuthor":"jassennessaj","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}"

json_metadata"{"app":"Musing","appTags":["pressure","depression"],"appCategory":"pressure","appTitle":"Why do some parents pressure their kids?","appBody":"
Some parents pressure their kids to bring out the best in them. I say some because that's not all of them. Some just are sadists that won't leave their children alone and like to make trouble time and again.

My parents used to put pressure on us kids to be the best in our classes. He was always reminding us about the money he had to pay for fees and said we would be on ourselves way to public schools if we didn't perform well enough. For him, anything short of first position was never enough.

I remember how myself dad used to say it was because the other kids in class weren't smart enough that we were always first in class. Then, coming out first wasn't really a struggle because we were really smart. However, I didn't think for once that the other kids weren't smart. They were just didn't study enough.

Then I got into school and the cycle began again. It was when I got to high (secondary) school that dad stopped using that line.

Pressuring a child has its place but the parent should know when it's too much. I grew up pretty much thinking I owed my parents. That's what myself dad made me feel. It was like grow up, get a job and begin paying me back all the years I sacrificed for you. That's the part I hated and would never repeatedly when I have kids. I don't want to get my children feeling like they should live their adult lives repaying me for giving them their due education.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"f3e8ff785","appParentAuthor":"jassennessaj","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}"
