I wasn't a fan of celebrating my birthday even when I was a kid and it was one of the few and most fun ways of having lots of kids around you and have fun with them. I simply didn't like the attention and all the wishes that somehow sound superficial. However I did celebrate my birthday quite a few times and the last time I did was about three years ago or even more. I dis liked a lot to go to birthday parties however. Some of the reasons why I don't like celebrating my birthday other than that attention that you get in that day is the fact that for me it's a day like all the others and very often I had a lot of fun out with friends on no particular reason comparing it with my birthday parties. Then is the fake wishes that sometimes I got from people that wouldn't message me for years. That happened especially when I was still a Facebook user. You know that on Facebook you can share your birth date on your profile and all your Facebook friends are being notified when you have your birthday thus you can get a ton of messages. Most as I said from people that you probably don't spoke with for months or even never. I also quit Facebook a few days before my birthday two years ago and I wasn't surprised to see that even my closest friends have forgotten about it so why even bother to celebrate it. There is also another philosophical thing that somehow influenced my view over time and birthdays. I read a few years ago some spiritual books of a famous Indian master who simply consider himself and everything around him as a divine essence that is beyond time and space and that actually has no birth or death. He was of course referring to our bodies, our personalities, and everything around us that is in a continual transformation process when referring to death, but for our being or divine essence he always stated that it is timeless and it doesn't have birth or death. That concept I have \"borrowed\" and since then this another reason to not celebrate my birthday anymore considering that ultimately I am, as a divine essence timeless. I am not against birthdays though and embrace everyone's decision to celebrate important moments of their lives as they please. </p>\n<p>Hope you found my thoughts interesting and wish you a great day!</p>","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"f3yejw8l5","appParentAuthor":"jassennessaj","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
