The key lies in what you state in your question, it is totally transparent so it would be less vulnerable to corruption. Having a public, distributed ledger of all the transactions that are taking place would be really great for the public. It would give us the opportunity to see what, where and how, the money was being moved around. Existing tokens like Stellar would be a great tool to transfer those funds or make the payments. It could also cut down on the number of FOIA requests that are being sent in to government agencies.
\n
I know that every year there is a group in my state that FOIA's the pay records of every public employee. If all of those transactions were happening via blockchain, there would be no need for them to do all of that FOIA'ing. They could just go to the ledger and look up the information that they need. This would cut down on wasted hours of gathering all of the information on both sides.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"p3b8wpnew","appParentAuthor":"jassennessaj","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |

However I think most governments would not want all of their finances to be public information.
\n
In theory, a state could require each citizen to pay his/her taxes in cryptocurrency by sending money directly from a verified personal wallet to the state's treasury wallet. Every transaction the state makes from their wallet would be stored permanently on the blockchain. The blockchain can also be used to count votes and store records (such as birth/death/marriage registry and property registry)
\n
Such a system would make corruption harder to get away with, but that would also give dishonest politicians reason to vote against it..
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"p3b8wpnew","appParentAuthor":"jassennessaj","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
