json_metadata"{"app":"Musing","appTags":["writing","english","literature"],"appCategory":"writing","appTitle":"What makes a piece of literature a classic, and what's your favourite please?","appBody":"<p>Well classic literature has definitely stood the test of time and only a few authors are classified to be classic, I'm sure there are Russian authors who are classic, it's just that they're not widely known all over the world and one of the reasons is because non English writer needs to be more than extraordinary in other to be read.</p>\n<p>Down the years from the 16th century for example, it's people like Shakespeare that's shaped the true meaning of literature, and that's why when you look at the type of literature called sonnet, you will discover that it was named after Shakespearean and the second type of sonnet was written by an Italian poet called Petrarch.</p>\n<p>Petrarch was not as popular as Shakespeare and definitely he wasn't English, he was Italian but he went down as a classic writer and is still being studied in literature today because he was part of the people that shaped literature, so also is authors like, William Golding, Ernest Hemingway and so many authors.</p>\n<p>In my opinion what makes a literature classic, Is how they've shaped the history of literature how they are a yardstick to measure good piece of writing be it prose, poetry or drama, classic literature are the piece of work that's evergreencabd stands the test of time and the reason why non English writers may not go down as legendary classic was because it was the English writers of the 16th century that shaped the first type of literature and are recognised for it.</p>\n<p>The Persian authors you mention may not have shaped the genesis of the first kind of literature and that's why they're great for sometimes and then their works are forgotten with time, hope you understand.</p>","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"pkn5ryd9x","appParentAuthor":"nathen007","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}"
