Don't you think that climate change is not that bad for all regions in that sense?","appBody":"
Climate change in no way can be good for health, regardless of which region will become hotter. Mosquitoes are only a part of the challenge in our life and our life and health are exposed to multiple challenges due to extensive exploitation of natural resources which is ultimately adding to the problems of climate change.
\n
Mosquitoes are one of the deadliest animals in the world, carrying diseases that cause millions of deaths every year. Aedes can carry the dengue, chikunguyna and Zika viruses, as well as at least a dozen other emerging diseases. That is absolutely true that mosquito is a serious threat to health. With the climate change, global average temperature may rise and over the next 50/60 years, we may see some regions like West Africa & Southeast Asia become hotter than the other parts of the world as these regions are already too hot as of now. With that being said, we could see a significant reduction of mosquitos like Aedes who can not survive in a hot climate.
\n
But is mosquito the only major threat to our health? Are we not going through many more challenges in the context of climate change? Therefore, any scenario where a region gets too warm to transmit dengue is the one where we also have different but equally severe threats in other health sectors.
\n
Further we are a global world and the population has already been exploding which is an alarming situation and if the same increase of population will be projected and estimated for the next 50 years and considering the scenario of modern lifestyle, it is apparent to say that the challenges will be even more ugly than what we can think of. We must not forget that humans are very good at moving both bugs and their pathogens around the globe. With global warming, the scientists say, almost all of the world's population could be exposed at some point of time. So just imagine the challenge is not just mosquito. Also, not all types of mosquito will disappear in a hotter climate, some of the types will still survive.
\n
There will be global expansion and redistribution of Aedes-borne virus transmission risk with climate change. While some of the regions will become too hot, some will become moderately hot(which is now cold) and that is why there will be a redistribution of mosquitos too. The two most common disease-carrying mosquitoes such as Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, can track and move as the temperature changes over the decades. So the global threat of mosquitos still remains.
\n
Therefore climate change is still the largest and most comprehensive threat to global health security and this will further worsen the things as we move forward and unless adequate measures are taken, it will continue to be a threat to human life. A greater intensity of infections is also predicted with climate change. The time has come to lead a green life, leave less footprint in your daily routine, spread awareness and also proper measures should be taken by the global leaders in a serious and proactive manner.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"pk62dsg8q","appParentAuthor":"littymumma","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
