Markdown is a simple markup language that turns special characters like ** into HTML tags like (I hope this is displayed correctly).
\n
CSS is a complicated scripting language that adds a design to content written in HTML. It could be any visual effect, from a typewriter animation to sliding effects. You could even abuse it to create detailed drawings. There are things like filters and counters that you'd expect in a general-purpose language like JavaScript.
\n
Thanks to CSS you can separate form from content. This allows people to specialize in what they're good at. For example, you can define the style for the tag as bold, but also in a different font, a dark red font color with light yellow background etc.
\n
Both will have unexpected results sometimes - Markdown because different sites have created different versions to add features like tables, CCS because implementations of style in different browsers are unpredictable. Positioning elements correctly is a notorious challenge.
\n
For a more relevant comparison, Markdown is better than BBcode because it's actually more concise than HTML. BBcode just uses different tags. Even an experienced web developer might want to write web pages in Markdown and have Jekyll turn them into HTML.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"pkdrhw6cp","appParentAuthor":"littymumma","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
