There is a company that actually will not allow you to work more than 8 hours a day claiming it is unhealthy since it is not about quantity but quality. What do you think?","appBody":"
In my experience there are two philosophies in life when it comes to work. the first is that you should work as hard as you can when you're young so that you don't have to later in life. The second is that you should enjoy life when you're young and have the vitality to do so. I believe in the former. I think that 40 hours should be minimum but lets look at the two.
\n
When you are young you have the energy to work hard and do so longer than 8 hours a day. Assuming that the more you work, the more money you make this philosophy would be the one for the person who looks far into and plans for the future. If you are making more money while you're young then you are saving more and that money has longer to compound allowing you to pad your financial for comfortable life. I like this idea and have held this opinion since I was a teenager.
\n
The other way to look at it is that you only live once. There is the chance that you work all the time when you are young and then die early making all the work you did null due to a non-existent future. This is the risk you take.
\n
If you decide you will work later and enjoy all of life now, you also take a risk. The risk is that you don't have enough to retire and you end up working until the day you die. To me, the risk/reward of the former ideal is a better bet.
\n
The company's position that 8 hours ensures quality over quantity of work is flawed. The reason is simple: Who says a person can't put in 10 hours of quality work? Or even 8 hours of high quality work and 4 hours of reasonable quality work? What is the ratio of overall quality work? My guess is that 12 hours of mixed quality work ends up being more 8 hours of high quality work per day.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"p3pycv6sq","appParentAuthor":"maxipad","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
