Question answered on Musing.io
This is an interesting question in that announced doesn't necessarily mean that it will get made because of different things that happen along the way.

I am not that familiar with what's going on within the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) as I think I am with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), so I'll concentrate on potential characters from Marvel after I rule out those which would not be a contender for the purpose of this question.

MCU

Since there's been more than one studio making Marvel based character movies (Fox and Sony along with Marvel Studios, which is usually referred to as the MCU), I'll just say that I'm confining this to the MCU, especially since the parts of Fox that produced the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool are now with Disney, Marvel's parent company.

ALREADY MADE OR ANNOUNCED

With that in mind, movies in the works I've heard about with characters that don't have one yet include: The Eternals, Black Widow, and a martial arts kind of character named Shang-Chi. The rest of the movies that seem to be on the docket for Marvel's phase four are all characters that already have movies, including the Spider-man movie coming out later this year, and then a Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

(As I said earlier, I'm excluding all the rumored X-Men Universe heroes, too, like Gambit and The New Mutants, along with any other Sony/Spider-man movies, like Venom 2, Morbius, Into the Spiderverse 2, etc.)

I'm kind of surprised that the Eternals seem to be high on the list for a movie, since they are characters that are lesser known, even in the comic books, but we'll see how that goes.

KNOWN CHARACTERS BUT UNLIKELY

Of the characters that Marvel has introduced that don't have their own movie or one announced, there's Hawkeye, maybe one with Scarlett Witch and a revived Vision, although the last two may or may not have a TV or streaming series of some kind happening.

Others considered in the MCU, but not likely to get movies yet are Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones or the Defenders. That would probably also exclude a Punisher or King Pin movie, where the focus is more on the villain. The first Daredevil and Elektra movies did not go over well, nor did the previous Punishers.

With those characters out of the way, here's a short list of potential movies for characters without a film, or one announced.

MOON KNIGHT

Now that I've excluded all of those, I think Marvel should introduce Moon Knight, perhaps through a Doctor Strange movie, and then give him his own. He's been an Avenger, so there's a possibility there, and while his powers are mystical/magical, his alter ego, Mark Spector, has some ongoing personality disorder/issues that might be interesting to explore.

SHE-HULK

She's had a hard time keeping her own comic book series going, but she's also been an Avenger, a member of the Fantastic Four, and while her cousin the Hulk hasn't done well with either of his solo movies, her alter ego is much more likable than what Bruce Banner has been, and she has total control over her powers. She could be introduced maybe in Black Widow or maybe another Antman/Wasp sequel.

SPIDER-WOMAN

Another female superhero with a good amount of story, with some conflict along the way, Spider-Woman could also be a possibility. Especially if Sony continues to retain the rights to most of the Spider-man universe. Apparently, she doesn't really belong to it, so would be free to be a part of what the MCU might have going on moving forward.

Since the Skrulls have been introduced through the Captain Marvel movie, it's possible that a version of 'Secret Invasion' could be in the works, and Spider-Woman actually plays a pivotal role in that, anyway.

Okay. I think that's it.

Which Marvel/DC character should they make a movie of next?

Oh I love that you mentioned Spider-Woman. It's about time they make a movie for her too. Maybe it's coming soon. She's so much better than Spider Gwen and friends. Haha. No offense to their fans but Spider-Woman is so much better imho. I may be bias but I'd love to see a good movie on Spider-Woman.

Hey, @artgirl.

I really don't know that much about Spider-Gwen. I've read a couple of comic books, but couldn't get into it that much, and I've seen the Into The Spiderverse animated movie, where she actually seems to be a little better. I suppose it's possible that Sony, who owns the rights to all of the Spider-man and related characters, would want to do a movie about Spider-Gwen, but she's a recent enough character that maybe they wouldn't. I think there is supposed to be another Into the Spiderverse, though.

Spider-Woman, interestingly enough, isn't counted as being a part of the Spider-Man universe because she has her own unrelated origins. Which means the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) could go ahead. It's sad to think that there's all these complications because of who owns what, but that's why the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Spider-man weren't apart of the MCU movies until Spidey showed up a couple year ago after a deal was struck with Sony.

re: Spider-Woman

The thing about her is, though, she's never really had success on her own, so there would have to be some pretty decent supporting characters, I would think. That's why I think the Skrulls *Secret Invasion* would be great.

Thanks for the reply. It's hard because they seem to have milked it pretty hard on the marvel front to the point where every time thery release a movie I'm kinda thinking "really? They made a movie about him?" but I suppose I did think that about black panther and it was pretty good.

From DCEU I'd go Animal man, especially if they went with the Alan Moore story lines as a basis. Another complex character and that plot line in particular was great. If your a reader you should check those out.

@glenalbrethsen ·
I was reading that Marvel actually sold the rights to their top three comic book sellers—Spider-man, X-Men and Fantastic Four—back in the 1990s because they were going bankrupt. So, imagine the risk they were taking when they finally had the money and their own studios by putting on screen characters and superheroes that supposedly had lesser appeal, like Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America. But just seeing Tony Stark fiddling around with the new suit once he was back from Afghanistan, and then getting it to fly, let alone fight, was just AWESOME. So, they've been able to repeat that over and over, taking lesser known characters and throwing them up on the screen, and I think it's because of the way they've tied them all in, rather then leaving them to fend for themselves.

So, I'm not sure how long they can sustain the magic, but it doesn't sound like they're ready to quit yet. And with multiple billions from the movies, why would they? :)

re: Animal Man

I'm not at all familiar with Animal Man, so I will have to look into him. Thanks.
