It connects the retina to the brain) that tends to affect it is GLAUCOMA. This disease if unattended to, can cause vision loss and blindness. </p><p>African Americans over 40 years of age, everyone over age 60, especially Mexican Americans, People with a family history of glaucoma are at a higher tick of having glaucoma than others.</p><p>Glaucoma can be detected through the following dilated eye exam</p><p>1. Visual acuity test done through eye chart test to determine how well one can see from various distance. </p><p>2. Visual field exam to measure the strength of the peripheral which it's loss shows a sign of loss side vision. An indicator of glaucoma.</p><p>3. Dilated eye exam done by putting drops in the eye to widen, and dilate the pupils of which with the aid of special magnifying glasses, the doctor can perform an examination on the retina and the optical nerves.</p><p>Glaucoma treatment is through use of medicines, conventional surgery, to delay the progression of the open angled glaucoma. There seems to be no cure for glaucoma but early stage diagnosis can be done to delay it's progression.</p><p>WE should do well to learn more about glaucoma as it is a common disease in some countries and knowing how it operates will help us be able to prevent it in the coming older ones.
