How to stop or prevent?","appBody":"
Hello @funtraveller, the Internet as advantageous and good as it is, came with its own disadvantages. One of its disadvantages is causing addiction to whatever we do with it. With all these addictions like porn addition gambling addiction. It's problematic.
\n
I am also a victim. Not of gambling addiction but of pornographic addiction. It's bad as it is. U couldn't do without watching porn by the day. And it showed me that I have been addicted. And just like you, I am certain you have learned that the gambling has got you addicted. And it's affecting your lifestyle that's why you want to get rid of it. I'd tell you how I got rid of mine. The first step you have taken is the most important. ACCEPTANCE. You have accepted you have a gambling problem which is great a step ti combating it.
\n
The next step is to seek help with a professional. One of the steps I know they would take is to ask you what triggers you to go gamble. Find this trigger, study it. I am sure it is in your times of weakness and idleness. So, my advice to you is when you figure out these moments of your weakness, and you see it is about to get the best of you, try to make yourself do something that would distract you from your weakness. Say read a book, visit a friend, go outing, anything that helps you get your mind away from gambling. I'd advise you do something that will entirely take your mind of it. Taking a run would get your mind away from the online gambling. Or better still, the phone or system that gives you access to the Internet for gambling, give it to someone before that moment comes. At the end of all therapy, you have to prevent relapse. Not going back to gambling. This seems to be the hardest part. Because every moment, the though of gambling would hunt you. But you have to be strong and remind yourself why you left gambling. Say to yourself \"I am stronger than this urge, I am better than this urge, I am better than this urge, I will prevail, I am a winner over this urge, I'LL AM A VICTOR and I will prevail.
\n
I hope you can overcome your gambling addiction. It won't be easy believe me for I myself I still relapse. But after doing that, I go back to trying to fight it everytime. Be strong and you shall overcome. I can tell you it won't be easy, but winners don't give up. Overcomes don't rest. Don't give up the fight. You can and will win.
\nFinally, try to join support groups that will help you fight more.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"p36844gzw","appParentAuthor":"funtraveller","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
