That means that it is 100% pure gold. This is more expensive and certain jewelers only sell 24 karat. Mene is one of them and you are basically just buying the gold.</p>\n<p>18 karat is gold that is 75% gold and has other alloys added.</p>\n<p>14 Karat is only 58% gold lots of other metals</p>\n<p>10 karat is only 41% gold. lots of other metals</p>\n<p>Obviously the less gold that is in the jewelry the cheaper it should be. It is defined as \"<em>parts fine per 24 part whole</em>\". This means that 24 karat is as pure as you get it. For a substance to be considered to be real gold it has to be at least 14 karats - anything lower is considered another metal with gold in it. This is a measurement unit of mass (weight) that equals 200mg, or 0.2g if you prefer to read it as grams. A 5 carat diamond would weight exactly 1g. This carat unit is used when it comes to gemstones or peals, so a diamond, ruby, emerald, or sapphire would be measured in carats. </p>\n<p>It's important to keep in mind that a carat won't tell you anything about the purity of a gemstone, but a real gemstone will be 100 % pure anyway.
