<p>Derogated is not a right word to use. If you had said not much respected in comparison to the professional jobs, it's quite understandable.  Not everyone looks down on artisans and farmers. I don't even think people look down on them because they are offering useful services to man.</p><p>If anyone at all have a derogated view about artisans and farmers, it would be the unsuccessful ones that such views are held against. People hardly look down on successful artisans and farmers because they have the money to live the sort of life they wish. It is artisans that are still struggling that are looked down on when compared to those with professional jobs</p>
