Learning to manage stress is important in any role. To me this breaks down into three things : - learning about what stress is, and the impact it has - learning about the things that make you as an individual stressed - developing stress mitigation strategies Personally I found the Process Communication Model very useful for all of these things; it was originally developed in conjunction with NASA but the guy who ran the courses I was on had been an aviation psychologist specializing in the human factors in military and civil aviation accidents. Understanding the "what" and "why" of stress (as well as its impact) can help you to let go of some aspects of what causes stress - or proactively manage it, at least. Above all else, however I'd suggest that physical exercise remains the best tool you have available. The 30-60 minutes out of your schedule at the pool, gym, walking, running or whatever will pay off hugely in increased effectiveness for the rest of your time. If you are a "workaholic" type (on the PCM scale, which has now become "Thinker") then "cheerfully wasting time for 30 minutes a day" is useful tool. I took up the guitar, which felt like cheerfully but constructively wasting time...
