There are certain communities in different places around the world where vigilantes work hand in hand with the police to minimise the crime rate in a particular area. </p><p>In some cases the vigilantes are given weapons and are permitted by the police to shoot criminals if need be so yes, in situations like that, vigilantes are actually allowed to shoot criminals.</p><p>In other places, vigilantes are actually seen as criminals themselves because it's perceived that they are people who are taking the law into their own hands and it's frowned upon by law enforcement. If a vigilante should happen to shoot a criminal then it doesn't matter what the criminal did, unless it was self defense, they will be charged with murder.</p><p>In my hometown of Onitsha, Anambra state, Nigeria, the vigilantes work hand in hand with the police and although I'm not sure if they give them weapons to use and shoot criminals, I know that if a criminal falls at the hands of a vigilante then no charges will be pressed against the vigilante.</p><p>I hope this helps.</p>","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"pkcb9s8ddx","appParentAuthor":"stramadan","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
