If you're not a well-known band, you first pay to appear on Spotify until you get certain plays per month. If it's a well-known band, I think they pay a small amount for each reproduction they have.
\n

\n
Go to the Spotify site, there explain better what I just wrote ...
\n

\n

\n
Here is my explanation
\n
Spotify retains 30% of the money produced by two basic channels: advertising (those that users see with free account) or monthly money of subscribers (premium)
\n
Of the remaining 70%, a certain percentage not very high (I do not know exactly what I will know in a few months) goes to the composers and lyricists / poets, who charge through the copyright society of which they are members (SGAE in Spain, SADAIC in Argentina, etc.)
\n
Of that same 70%, most goes to the rightful owners of the recording (which are usually the artists themselves, in the case of independents, or their record labels, if they have them). Currently, a huge part of the artists do not have a label (and many do not want to have it either). Artists or their labels charge through their distributor (for example Distrokid or CD Baby).
\n
Imagine that you are an artist and you have a contract with a record label. That contract will stipulate how much you will charge and how much you retain the stamp (which supposedly has invested a million in you: recording studios and mastering, promotion, press, etc.) Then, if there are four in your band, keep dividing.
\n
If you have your own record label and you play solo (pianist, for example), you keep everything paid by the distributor (discounting what the bank holds you, and then from there to pay taxes ... that is, everyone bites the artist's work ).
\n

","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"p34xmqh95","appParentAuthor":"sumaia188","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}"
