Still genetically modified crops are being promoted. What is the reason?","appBody":"
Well before I dive into the benefits of genetically modified crops. Logically it makes more sense to have excess in storage of a very important commodity required for life. Especially one that could be lost if there's a natural occurrence that could threaten its existence.
\n
Next up.
\n
Seeds are currently been genetically engineered for a number of reasons which are not limited to the following.
\n
+ Pest control.
\n
Seeds are currently been engineered to be more resistant to the effects of pest. Some seeds are even engineered to be toxic to the pests that consume them the most. This in turn removes the need for pesticides which in turn prevents pollution giving rise to a cleaner pollutant free environment for humans to dwell in.
\n
+ Higher yield.
\n
Seeds can also be generically engineered to give off a better yield. This would make poor harvest a thing of the past. Which would also prevent scarcity of food.
\n
+ General availability of A particular food product.
\n
Some crops are seen to be only cultivated during a particular season. Genetically engineering seeds in other for them to withstand unfavourable weather conditions could make these crops available everytime.
\n

\n
So genetically engineering food is a great tool in making food available at all time, even if the current food supply can meet the growing demand for it. Also do not forget that humans are growing in a very rapid geometrical rate, which would make food demand in the coming years higher.
","appDepth":2,"appParentPermlink":"pka74gjnx","appParentAuthor":"akdx","musingAppId":"aU2p3C3a8N","musingAppVersion":"1.1","musingPostType":"answer"}" |
