The psychological aspect is very true. It's an easier bypass to overwrite, than rewrite, is an analogy I could use. To do something else instead, than to stop doing it. But this just means i's easier, as a way to put something else in it's. Not doing that, and just removing what you don't want, is possible. It just takes more effort and dedication, but I have done it. 

Also, a resolution can be done any day of the year, just letting everyone know if we want to change, we don't need to wait for some day or the other, we're the will that decides what we do, not some day of the year. It's all about our power over ourselves, self-control, self-mastery, self-governance, and having the higher will power to stop the subconscious/unconsciousness conditioning to remain in place.
