Some of you have experienced this bug on your own, some have been warned by @jesta posting about it (kudos @jesta!).

Still, some people lost SBD due to this issue while trying to promote their posts, 376.414 SBD to be exact.
With the much appreciated help of @lukestokes who provided me with a data dump on the promoted posts that are paid out, I was able to get a full list of authors who got their SBD burned without the post being actually promoted.

The person who aparently lost the most was @scott.stevens who tried 3 times to send SBD to the @null account but to no avail. The total amount he *spent* was 119 SBD.

While doing the stats I looked at posts that were promoted and had their payout before the @steemitblog announcement of the Post Promotion feature (8/29/2016 21:58) which enabled the option and obviously, any post with its payout before the option was active experiences this issue by default.
I continued to analyze the list and have found a few more which I added to the table. 
If your post didn't have its payout before the post promotion option became active or the Boost Payment is below 4 SDB, you may not be in the table above. Let me know in the comments if you're not on the list and should be.

Hopefully a compensation way will be found so that everybody is happy in the end.

Everyone in the list above should now have a reimbursement in their wallets. @ned provided the budget to @zaebars who ensured the reimbursement distribution. For full transparency, Ned has also sent him and me 100SBD each as a reward for the initiative.

Right now, if you are not upvoted by a “whale” account, it is very difficult to get exposure and any substantial rewards, which leads to many great authors leaving Steemit.
Robin Hood wants to be the “whale” that finds and helps a diverse set of talented, yet unrecognized authors. The proposed way of doing this is to cycle between different authors, upvoting ~10-20 quality posts daily. RHW won't upvote the same authors twice in any 10-day period in an effort to support more people and discourage any kind of abuse or ulterior motives.

In a way, RHW's ultimate goal would be to not be needed at all. But as new enthusiastic authors join, RHW will be here to find them, help them and upvote them, growing the community and the overall quality of what you can find on Steemit.
