 I don't really use my printer so often, but when I do, there is lot of problems to get wanted result - printed paper. Generally, there is a setback when printer is lack of use. An Ink of the printer dry up very fast due to lack of using. After the ink is dried up, basically you have two options; neither buy new ink or new printer (ink included). To buy new printer sounds very absurd when ink is dried up or empty. However, a basic printer actually cost less than a new ink in Finland. How absurd is that, not to mention ecological footprint? This is something that I don't understand, especially in the world where sustainable development is at a premium. Would it be better for environment if people buy inks instead of new printers? β¦and why the ink is more expensive than a new basic printer?

Ink is cheap for the company to make. They make a cartridge for 3 dollars and sell it for 30 dollars. A printer costs more to build and they don't make as much money on it because they can only mark it up so high. Plus it will last for years. So it is much easier for them to make 20, 30, 40, dollars every time they sell a cartridge . So if you sell a million printers and make 30 dollars that's 30 million dollars... But then you sell the 1 million people just 4 cartridges over the life of their printer (way conservative) and you have made 80 million dollars if the profit is 20 dollars a cartridge...

We've never encountered that problem with our HP Laserjet Professional M1212nf MFP, but then again, we print nearly every day. I have notice, though, that the cheap Multi Function Devices tend to malfunction rather often. If you need to print often, you will get your money's worth if you buy a better device.
