Ok. So hopefully this isn't a stupid question but... Is SMT a crypto currency itself which allows for creation of coins within it? I am vaguely familiar ERC20 tokens. Is this not something like that? Thanks for answering questions. Not downing the post at all. I just find interaction like this to be a better way for me to gain information.

Not at all, please don't shy away from asking questions. I'm not familiar with ER20, but I hope this helps: SMT is not a currency on itself. You can build several currencies on the steem blockchain, like STEEM is a currency on the steem blockchain, SBD is another currency on the steem blockchain but it's value is pegged with the USD that's why it's always around 1 Dollar whereas STEEM is much more volatile. I don't know if you see the difference? Now with SMT it allows in person to create their own currency on the steem blockchain, the economic of each coin depend on the person who run it. It's like an operative system, skype is an app, but also Instagram is an app, they are all on the same operative system, but each runs their business as they wish. Hope that helps :)
