I do find that the current upvote system seems to favor the steemers popularity over quality of content. I'm a little bias though, because although I put out great content every day or two, I barely get noticed. Meanwhile anyone with a decent size of steem power in the bank gets upvotes immediately, often much faster than its humanly possible to read the post. But that being said, the concept of getting rewarded (by the readers) for a good blog with useful content is genius, and a hard feat to execute. So please let me Thank You for continuing to work on this process. Honestly, steemit is an amazing accomplishment, and this community you have created will only grow bigger and better.
