The mastering the fundamentals bit really resonates with me, I have done things in the past but it was usually on top of someone else's work with the justification in my mind that there was no need to reinvent the wheel. While for some use cases that is correct, but you are also correct, once something happened and the kit i was coding on top of was gone, so was my work and knowledge. It would be cool to have a chatroom or something, maybe other people agree.
