I'm not even sure that these 2 platforms can compete. Because they are a lot different. Also, not all the users on Facebook can come on Steemit and stay. Many will get disappointed because their twitter-like post don't get upvotes, resulting in them giving up. After joining Steemit, almost all the time I've spent on Facebook was reduced to nothing.

They are very different at the moment. But in time they will get more and more similar. Facebook will eventually HAVE to copy the steemit model or stand to lose. And steemit will introduce many more "social" features with individual profiles, followers and that sort of thing.

Then both these platforms will be a lot similar and people will flock to steemit to experience what the fuss is all about when it finally goes mainstream. Many will get disappointed, yes. But they will try nonetheless. Even if Steemit can't topple Fb in the future, it will at least deal a major blow! A blow Fb may or may not sustain depending on any innovation Fb may or may not have up its sleeve.
