My $.02: I agree with rating posts based on actual views and comments. Filters would be great but I see a huge problem that creeps in with tagging - for example, we have trending tags "photo", "photograph" and "photography" - all designating the same kinds of posts but essentially splitting one category into 3. While autocomplete can be limiting because people are then unable to add new tags, there has to be an amalgamation of tags in popular categories and possibly even a larger taxonomy of tags rather than the current alphabetical system
