"Whales", we love them we hate them we want them to notice us.

Who are those "Whales"? They are probably users the managed to jump on the Steemit train early, that's it.

We all know and recognize the power of Whales, they have so much Steem Power they can up vote the sh*t out of posts. Once a "whale" up vote is made the post is going on the fast lane to the front page for future glory.

Why am I telling you that? It's old news we all know the power of "Whales" and their abilities to impact curation. Well I'm here to talk about "agenda" or impacting the "people's opinion".

First it's story time:

In a little country far far away there was one big newspaper controlling the media. It was so big official that by official regulation in was considered a "monopoly". No one could dethrone it. The paper controlled by its powerful whale editor set the agenda of the people thus impacting the "people's opinion".

One day the Prime minister of said country had enough, so he decided he needs his own newspaper. Luckily the PM had a powerful donator that agreed to build him his own newspaper. The Donator was so powerful he was considered a "Mega – Whale". This "Mega-Whale" invested so much money he managed in just a few years to dethrone the old paper and even help the PM to be elected to a third term. To this day an epic battle of papers is fought between those two, trying to sway the agenda of the people.

End of story.

Boring story right? But it serves as a small example of media and curation impact. I see Steemit "Whales" as those two newspapers. Their power is so strong they can set out to influence the agenda of Steemit, good or bad.

We have seen in before when @berniesanders decided to up vote a sh*t ton of weed posts to the front page. Fine we all love weed, don’t we?

It was a precedent for the future, because what will happen when we start up voting NSFW content or racist content or even manipulate the people to invest in a ponzi scheme for example.

Do we trust "Whales"? Do we need to start policing content? I think the answer is that there will be probably some policing by other "Angel – Whales" who will see themselves as saviors of the people. They will down vote obvious manipulated self serving agenda posts.

Shower thought: can we see in the future a profession called "Steemer"?
