Steem Stats: Active Users

Hi Steemians,

I've made two new charts today: **Daily and Weekly Active Users**.
As of tomorrow I will add the first chart to my *Daily Steem Stats report*.

An 'active user' is an account that has added at least 1 transaction to the Steem blockchain. This can be a vote, comment, transfer or anything else.

The Steem blockchain currently counts 257,400 registered accounts. 9.2% of them were active yesterday. The weekly number of active users is about twice as high.

The charts speak for themselves: A very nice growth!

The format of de date field is 'YYYYWW'. For example: 201725 means week 25 of this year, 2017.

It is very interesting!   Positive progress but I feel like their is a lot of account squatting which might not be a bad play but it is interesting how many accounts have been registered with no activity going on.

I just asked what we can do to improve Steemit and got no replies.   The platform is rather stagnant imho.

Sometimes it does seem stagnant in some regards.  It is a weird thing sometimes.   There are all kinds of things that can be done to improve it.  People really like challenges and games on here.   Also there is the ability to do 3rd party development and have other apps that will interact with the STEEM block chain.

Agreed. Nothing wrong with reserving a favorite username, but I am guessing they think they'll get rich off of Steem by having and sitting on an account. Takes months and years to understand how blockchain & crypto really work, which is why I'm sure they don't (yet, if ever).

It's a steep learning curve for many including me and this is a novel departure from the usual 'social networks' out there.
Anecdotally 4 members of my family have joined in June 2017. I'm the only one active as I have read the 44 page white paper and suggested to my family to do the same so they understand the ideas.

True. I think the issue is that this site's advertising making money on your posts, and not all of us will. I think we can get more people with an app for android / ios, as well as marketing that this is just a social media site that we can happen to make money on too.

Did you create those charts with Excel?  May I suggest you look into Power BI?  It's a Microsoft product as well but more geared towards your type of analysis.  I'm not a MSFT sales person I swear.  Just got into Power BI myself a few months ago, realized the advantages, and helping spread the word I guess to people who are trying to do visualizations in Excel.

I can't filter users by country. The origin of a user is not stored on the blockchain.
It's possible to analyse how many users vote on posts under the CN tag, but this includes voting bots as well.

Thanks for the graphs ... ! I assume the growth in the number of users is slowing down these days due to crypto as a whole cooling off after the peak and posting on Steemit being somewhat less lucrative as a result.
