I must say basking in the euphoria the hive platform brings is such a therapeutic one. How are my hivers doing today ? I’m sure you all are effortlessly buzzing .. Growing up i was told a story of a group of mice who felt the best way to deal with a fierce and murderous cat was to put a bell around the cat’s neck so that the bell will prevent and deter it from sneaking up on the group of mice.In the story, i was told of how the issue of who among the the group of mice will risk its life to put the bell around the fierce cat’s neck arose. Of course as expected none out of the group of mice volunteered to carry out this herculean task.

From this story I learnt the lessons of not only considering the outcome of an ongoing plan(s); the plan itself must be first of all be achievable or it is useless.In other words, the story teaches the fundamental difference that exists between ideas and their feasibility and how this affects the value of the given plan.



 Belling the cat refers to risking one’s well-being in order to perform a difficult task that if achieved, will be of huge benefit at the long run. This idiom you will agree with me carries a huge sense of sacrifice . The act of belling the cat in its pure and original form is an act of “service”. It is an act of service tied up with huge sacrifices. 





Belling the cat in my own opinion is similar and synonymous to “taking the bull by the horn”. The idiom depicts and illustrates the ability to make firm , bold and stern decisions and steps in the face of adversity and so many obstacles . In life , we are faced with so many situations and problems that seem to be difficult to solve . If one is feeble minded, one might not get the opportunity to be free from this bondage if adequate courage is not present in the conquering of these so called challenges. 




Sometimes, to gain our freedom we have to go all out,deprive ourselves of certain things and finally damning all consequences that may want to accompany the bold steps we aim to take in tackling various and different challenges that may face us

The act of belling the cat to most people might seem like a distress call to service . It has to do with a lot of sacrifices. These sacrifices could include doing certain things that ordinarily we won’t find ourselves doing in the first place . It might involve an individual dropping his or her ego in fulfilling the terms and conditions “belling the cat” dictates . Even in interpersonal relationships for example, this act always unnoticeably comes to play.





 Take for instance, in a situation where there’s a long standing quarrel between two close friends which obviously has led to malice occurring, one would wonder if one out of these two friends will summon the courage to talk about what happened and probably apologize even  when he or she is not wrong or at fault. You will agree with me on the fact that the person who eventually apologized to make things right actually dropped a size-able amount of ego ; that’s what belling the cat preaches .

Furthermore, the act of belling the cat in my own thoughts, i might be wrong though is some sort of  a love language for instance when it comes to love and romantic relationships . 




One of the five (5) love languages is “act of service”. An act of service in this context, is the physical expression of a thoughtful gesture. It involves someone going out of his or her way to meaningfully help and support the other person. We should take note of  the phrase “going out of one’s way”; this exudes and features a great sense of sacrifice you will agree with me . 





This act does not involve mere and superficial words rather it involves intentions and visible actions to actually follow through. In other words, it involves dedicated time and service in a non-verbal way.

To cap it all, the act of belling the cat as a distress call to service be it in tackling real life problems or situations or in interpersonal relationships should be seen as a sign of strength , maturity and absolute pass mark for emotional intelligence and not a sign of weakness or fear.  So will you bell the cat if the need arises??!!
