Am I the Laziest Writer Ever - Part II

<sub>Can I risk being so lazy to not even use a picture? I challenge you to use your imagination, while reading this and hope you accept my challenge.</sub>

*"When I was young, I would sit in the bath and ideas would come to me. But I'm not young any more, so now I just sit in the bath."*
<Br>I wish I had come up with the aforementioned quote, but it was a Finnish filmmaker, Aki Kaurismรคki, [who once said this](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0442454/?ref_=tt_ov_dr).

It could have been me though, on a day like today, *or yesterday*, where I have been sitting a lot and - *racing brain or not* - don't seem to generate a lot of creative ideas.

I will probably take a bath later, it's chilly and I can't seem to get warm today.

*In fact, I am sitting in my studio, wrapped in a blanket, as I was about to buy a heater today, *if I could find one*, but the hardware store was closed* 

To get back to the quote, I like to think that I'm still not ~~that~~ old , my ripe age ( I am maturing like a good wine ) is merely the answer to the most important question in the Universe: **42** 

That is, if I need to believe *The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy*, a book that I started reading a week or two ago.

I watched the movie adaptation of this scifi classic years ago and did not really like it but I might give it another chance and enjoy it more ( *or not* ), after having read the book.

To get back to this prolific Finnish filmmaker, I recently watched two short films of his ( as the only streaming website that I pay for, shows international arthouse cinema, with among it, at the moment, a career retrospective of this guy.

One of them was [Rocky VI](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091865/?ref_=nm_flmg_t_47_prd) which has very little to do with the original Rocky movies, except that it talks about boxing and includes something not much resembling a fight, between a guy called Rocky ( who does not look like the original Rocky at all ) and a very stupid looking strong guy called 'Igor'.

Another short film of his, [O Tasqueiro, 2012](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt26476025/?ref_=nm_flmg_t_4_prd) that I watched days ago, takes place in Portugal ( where I have been living since 2018 ) and was therefore quite enjoyable a watch for me. It basically talks about the owner of an unsuccessful little tavern in an old Portuguese town. 

Anyhow, this was not supposed to be a movie review but I studied film ( *as you might know by now, as I tend to repeat this, reminding myself of 7 years wasted in University, accumulating debt and eventually bringing me to the world of cryptocurrencies and blogging* ) and this just flowed out of me.

A nice thing about the films of Kaurismรคki is that they are short, even his feature length films. Often shorter than 90 minutes. 

He does not waste our time.

And I plan to do the same.

As someone who is also at the age of meaning of life, I find that what happens is that both the responsibility and trivium of life pile on us in a way that they did not when we were younger, demanding much more of our mental and emotional energy ... so I look at my childhood model, Beethoven, and how he kept from slowing down too much in his middle forties. At 42 -- much older in his time than ours -- he wrote both his seventh and eighth symphonies ... but then lost his brother and adopted his nephew at age 44, and just there, he slowed down dramatically. 

But there were two things Beethoven refused to give up:

1. His long walks in nature
2. His ability to look back at things he had completed or sketched when younger, and remix them when he had no "new" ideas

That carried him creatively to four months before his death at age 56. Had his health not failed, there would have been a completed tenth symphony ... but that Ninth? He started the first ideas of that when he was *TWENTY-SIX,* and remixed them into hundreds of sketches and at least two published pieces over the next *seventeen years.*

... and commenting on posts I really enjoy, including yours. I am not feeling well and also have chores to manage ... so I am "refilling the tank" intentionally before asking of my mind and spirit to create anything. By Friday I will be well enough (Lord willing) to return to my daily walk ...

... and I will write in my journal what comes to me as I go, as Beethoven also did with his sketchbooks. A little creating as it comes, while doing anything and everything but focusing (for a little while) on the other responsibilities and trivium seems to clear the path for me.

Amazing comment!

I learnt a lot about Beethoven, interesting. Seems like he and I ( and you and I ) have some things in common.

I don't have 'a' journal but I have at least 5 sketchbooks/ journals lying around that I use randomly and I also tend to remix things, at times. 

I hope you were able to get back to your daily walk. 

I know, for one, that the days I spent indoor(s) don't make me feel better, 
no matter how exhausted I am.

It's a beautiful Winter's day, out here, and I will go out for the second time, to get some lunch, in a little over an hour.

I haven't seen the Hitchiker's Guide  movie but I remember reading the book many moons ago. It was one of the only books I ever recall reading that made me laugh out loud.

I myself am very lazy in the same way that I leave my work for tomorrow and I lie all day thinking that I will do it tomorrow but then tomorrow's work is also done. I can't do that because of the lot of work, so it's better to do the daily work every day.

We all have our daily work to do, but there's often still choices. 
Some things can really wait till the next day or later. 

It's also about not feeling guilty when we don't do something immediately ( easier said than done, I know ).

I never got anywhere with my degree either but I donโ€™t consider that time wasted as I learned a lot and had a great time, unlike school which I consider an  almost total and complete waste of twelve years.

I was exaggerating a little bit ( for comic relief ) but not much.
I only had a great time, in the first year or two, or three, of Uni and then I started struggling with my thesis, a process that ended up taking almost 3 years ( and during which I felt pretty miserable ).

School was definitely a waste of time too but it felt a lot more like 'play' ( especially primary school ).
