Video lesson with questions for learners on Isaac Newton

Today we will learn about another scientist that bring about a lot of change and discoveries in physics, mathematics and philosophy. This is Sir Isaac Newton.

Listen to the video carefully and compile a few of your own questions and answer it.

Born in England, Isaac Newton was a highly influential physicist, astronomer, mathematician, philosopher, alchemist and theologian.

Find out what type of work or discoveries the following scientist do - physicist, mathematician, astronomer , philosopher, alchemist and theologian

In 1687 Isaac Newton published a book that taught people more about gravity and the laws of motion - and many of his theories were used for centuries to come.

His 'law of gravitation' describes the attraction between different bodies like for instance the earth and the moon. A concept that is still studied today.

His laws of motion is actually 3 laws.

Isaac Newton made many discoveries and two important ones are the refraction of light and also him building the first practical telescope used.

In 1696 he moved to England, where he got the job as overlooking the production of the pound sterling at the royal mint (he checked that everything was going smoothly with making the money.)

Up until today the story of Newton sitting under a tree and watching an apple fall to the ground and in that way figuring out that gravity is present, is still told. Listen to the story and re-tell it in your own words.

Howdy anneke! That's a great quote. Yes he was amazing. Can you imagine if he was here in our time with all the technology that he could use?

Sometimes I think it is a good thing that old scientists do not use new technology - I think they used their brains way more than us so will be able to do even more.

That's a great point anneke, they had to didn't they? I guess we're spoiled and lazy with all our technology which does most of our thinking for us!

@maxlee ·
Guess what? The classic story of him observing an apple falling from the tree has more to it. The apple was falling slower than usual during a windy day, observing air resistance. Therefore, Sir Newton thought what if we slowed the apple far enough that it never touches the ground. That it stays in orbit forever? Thanks for reading.
